MODERN RISK MANAGEMENT I (MRM I): CONCEPTS, TOOLS & TECHNIQUES

Text Box: This is an introductory level course that prepares participants to be risk management practitioners as organizations increase expectations for structured approaches in the management of risk. The Target audience is all employees and managers that are (or may be) expected to directly support more structured approaches for the management of risk.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

OBJECTIVES

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe key concepts that modernize risk management - stakeholder focus, risk perception, risk tolerance, and integrated (Enterprise) Risk Management (IRM/ERM);
     
  • Develop and use key tools (e.g. Risk Matrix and Risk Tolerance Model) for more structured risk management; and
     
  • Participate in, and contribute to, structured risk management techniques.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

Our MRM I course has a proven track record of providing a solid foundational understanding of risk management concepts and how these can be used to produce risk-informed decision-making using simple and efficient processes, techniques and tools.  How To questions will be answered, such as: How is the concept of risk best explained? or How is a risk different from a problem?

In this two-day course, participants will complete many hands-on exercises designed to enhance their knowledge of concepts and develop their skills in risk assessment that can be applied at the project, operational or strategic levels of an organization. Participants will learn techniques for: Ensuring Excellence in Risk Identification; Selection of Priority Risks based on Preliminary Risk Assessment (and consolidating risks where appropriate); Assessment Methodology Management and Stakeholders can Trust; and Stakeholder Analysis.  Participants will also learn how to develop mature and effective risk management by separate attention to the component parts of Risk Assessment (RA), Risk Management (RM) and Risk Communications (RC).

MRM I participants will be able to practice their RA skills after the course – they will be provided electronic copies of the tools used in the course.
